About

Monireh Astani is a researcher and practitioner in animation, visual design, and emerging technology. She is currently a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Creative Industries at the University of Staffordshire, where she leads the Animation programme’s 2D pathway and contributes to the development of curricula for emerging technologies across Design, Visual Arts, and Media & Digital Communication programmes. She received her PhD in Media Studies from Maynooth University, Ireland, in 2023. Her research is interdisciplinary and practice-based and currently focuses on real-time, immersive and interactive technologies for hybrid animation production, visual design, and storytelling.

As previous Head of Department at Staffordshire University, I had the pleasure of working with Monireh as she joined the animation team that I line managed. Monireh was a dynamic force within the team, driving the research agenda and engaging in cross and inter/trans-disciplinary practice as research. She is an active member of the department community, taking a pro-active approach to make links across subjects and with other teams in the department and across the wider university faculty. Actively engaged with her subject field, Monireh is someone I felt proud to work with.
